Pinan Andean Lakes – Itinerary

Day 1: Otavalo – Cotacachi – Cuicocha – Chachimbiro

At 08:00 we will pick you up from your hotel in Quito. We will start the tour visiting the famous city of Otavalo, where you can do some shopping in the largest indigenous market in Latin America. We will also visit the leather market of Cotacachi and the beautiful volcanic lake of Cuicocha. Lunch will be at a typical Atuntaqui restaurant. After this delicious lunch, we will arrive at Hacienda Chachimbiro, where after checking in, we can take a walk around the hacienda. At dusk we will visit the hot springs of Chachimbiro, and we can take a relaxing bath in these pools, famous for their healing power. Welcome dinner.

Day 2: Irugunchu – Timbuyacu – Waterfall Magnet

After breakfast, we will start the trek through the ancient Inca Trail to Timbuyacu, where we will set up our camp. After lunch, we can take a dip in the waterfall Imán, famous for its revitalizing force. At night, we will return to the camp and enjoy a swim in the thermal pools located at the front of the tents.

Day 3: Pisangacho – Churuloma

In the morning we will walk towards Churuloma passing by Pisangacho, to observe many plants and animals, and to admire how the climate and the vegetation begin to change drastically. In the afternoon, we will be at the camp and learn a little about the history of the place.

Day 4: Andean Polilepis Forest – Lake Yanacocha

Today we will continue the Yanacocha road. During the trip we will admire the great Andean forest of polilepis. In Yanacocha, we will share the afternoon with the community, which has been barely influenced by the outside world. We will enjoy a natural tea (for altitude sickness) and finally in the camp we will prepare for the following day

Day 5: Piñán Community and Lake

Today we will reach our destination: Piñán. Here we can visit the community and enjoy the magnificent landscape of this lake, which is one of the largest, most beautiful and still quite unknown to Ecuadorians. On the way we will have the opportunity to see a great variety of birds of prey and, if we are lucky, perhaps some condors. Dinner and camp.

Day 6: San Francisco – Chachimbiro – La Banda

After breakfast, we will return on horseback to the main facilities of Hacienda Chachimbiro. On the way back we will stop in the hot springs of Chachimbiro, as a reward for the effort made. After dinner, as a farewell, we will enjoy together the typical music of the area.
